Some of my favorite branding sessions happen almost by accident.
I’ve worked alongside Flagstaff hair and makeup artist Beth Greenrock since 2013. We’ve spent more than a decade helping brides, business owners, and families feel their best in front of my camera. Somewhere along the way, she became more than a talented collaborator. She became one of those people I always hope is part of the day.
Whenever I host a personal branding mini session day and Beth is there helping my clients get camera-ready, I always try to save a little time at the end for photos of her, too. Because if there’s anyone who deserves updated branding photos, it’s the person who spends her days helping everyone else shine!
If you’ve spent any time in the Flagstaff wedding community, there’s a good chance you already know Beth. She’s genuinely kind, an easy person to talk to, and someone who makes every conversation feel like catching up with an old friend. Clients don’t just book her because she’s incredibly talented. They book her because she makes them feel comfortable from the moment they sit in her chair.
And that matters.
Whether she’s getting a bride ready on her wedding morning or preparing a business owner for professional headshots, Beth has a gift for helping women feel confident while still looking like themselves.
Her makeup never steals the spotlight. Instead, it enhances each person’s natural features so beautifully that the camera simply sees the best version of them. This is one of the reasons I love working with Beth on high school senior clients for their graduation photos. I don’t want to work with a makeup artist that is going to make a high school senior look too mature or older than she is. Beth is great at giving them the confidence boost that’s often needed before a photoshoot without making the look inappropriate. That is a hard skill to learn for makeup artists. I know only because I’ve worked with others who were not able to do the same.
One of my favorite things about personal branding photography is creating a gallery with variety. Business owners rarely need just one headshot. They need photographs that work for websites, social media, speaking engagements, email newsletters, and the everyday moments of running a business.
A thoughtful branding session gives them exactly that.
I’ve photographed enough branding sessions to know that professional hair and makeup isn’t about looking like someone else. It’s about feeling confident before you ever step in front of the camera. Beth understands photography makeup in a way that’s hard to teach. She knows how makeup interacts with natural light, how it photographs, and how to create a polished look that still feels effortless.
The result is simple: people look refreshed, confident, and unmistakably like themselves. After thirteen years of working together, I’m still grateful every time Beth is part of a session. She’s helped so many of my clients walk into their portraits feeling relaxed, confident, and well cared for. Having the chance to photograph her every now and then feels like a small way of giving something back.
